Below is a suggested letter to elected officials.
| Dear {name}: Please allow me to tell you why I support Texans for Sensible Immigration Policy (www.txsip.com). You have heard a lot of people complaining that illegal immigrants are competing with American citizens for jobs. I work in the construction business in Houston Texas. I am here to tell you that we cannot find enough American citizens willing to labor in the hot sun! Our company does not ask anyone to work for minimum wages. We have a starting labor wage of $9.00 per hour, and our average labor wage is over $14.00 per hour. We have immigrant workers that started as laborers, and are now working in supervisory positions. We provide workers comp, and group health insurance. Our employees are eligible for our 401K plan. In addition, we match SS/MC taxes. We also pay unemployment taxes, property taxes, and state Franchise taxes, now replaced by the Perry tax plan! The next time you get a letter from one of your constituents that claims those "rotten employers" are getting rich on cheap immigrant labor, ask them what they do for a living. Please also ask them what their children are doing. Very few American Citizens are encouraging their children to "learn a trade." Our company has participated in a lot of efforts to recruit new employees. Time after time we come up short of the number we need. We are always amazed that the only applicants that show up are the Hispanic Immigrants. Where are those young Americans that want to learn a trade? Right or wrong, America has become dependent on illegal immigrant labor. We must find a way to identify, and properly tax the immigrant worker. Removing them from their jobs, and putting their employers in jail is no solution. Sincerely, {your name here} |
